Education

Education is the key to prosperity. At HSBC, we seek to open doors of opportunity for young people by helping to raise academic achievement and improve life skills with formal and informal learning. Providing access to education, particularly for children from disadvantaged backgrounds who might not otherwise get the opportunity, is the central aim of HSBC’s education initiatives. The projects we support contribute to the alleviation of poverty through opportunities for success, a positive attitude, and hope for a better future.

Our educational activity are primarily focused on enhancing financial literacy, supporting underprivileged children and promoting international understanding among young people including awareness of, and sensitivity to, other cultures. Examples of our educational activity in Japan include Students in Financial Enterprise (SIFE) and the H.I.H. Prince Takamado Trophy.

SIFE

HSBC supports SIFE to encourage the promotion of financial literacy among young people. SIFE students join forces to develop sustainable projects that create opportunity by helping others to understand the fundamentals of market economics, acquire education and skills, succeed as entrepreneurs, develop personal financial management skills and understand the importance of ethical business practices.

The H.I.H. Prince Takamado Trophy

The H.I.H. Prince Takamado Trophy is one of Japan's oldest and most prestigious English-speaking competitions with thousands of junior high school students participating nationwide each year. Each year, HSBC awards the top seven students with a 2-week all expenses paid trip to a summer school in the United Kingdom.
