Time Deposit Account

There are 2 kinds of time deposit accounts.

Yen Time Deposit Account

Yen Time Deposit is a Japanese Yen (“JPY”) denominated deposit with a deposit tenure fixed at the time when the deposit is placed; hence, pre-matured uplift of time deposit is not allowed, in principle.

In principle, time deposits should not be cancelled prior to its maturity dates. In the event that the Bank has accepted the customer's cancellation request and customer cancelled the time deposit before its maturity date, the amount of interest for the period starting from the deposit date to the cancellation date will become zero. Hence, only the deposit principal will be credited to your designated Yen Savings Account or Multi Currency Savings Account (Yen).

Minimum Deposit Amount: JPY100,000 per time deposit

Deposit Term: 1-month, 2-month, 3-month, 6-month, 9-month, 12-month, and other terms determined by HSBC.

Deposit Interest

  • The interest rate agreed at the time of deposit will be applicable to the time deposit for the interest period. You can obtain more information about our interest rates designated for the respective deposit tenures from any of the HSBC Premier Centres, or click here.
  • Interest Calculation: deposit interest will be calculated on a unit of one Yen (JPY 1) for the actual number of days of the interest period over a 365-day year on a pro-rata basis of 365 days in a year (any fractional amount less than one Yen will be rounded down to the nearest Yen).
Payment: principal and interest are paid in a lump sum on the maturity date.
Deposit Renewal: on the time deposit maturity date, the time deposit is uplifted as per your instruction. There are 3 options available (if the deposit term is 12 months, only Non-Renewal Type is available):
  1. Principal & Interest Renewal Type (+P+I)
The aggregate sum of the principal and interest will be renewed as a new Time Deposit, for the same deposit period.
  2. Principal Renewal Type (+P-I)
Only the principal amount will be renewed as a new Time Deposit for the same deposit period. The interest will be credited to your designated Yen Savings Account or Multi Currency Savings Account (Yen).
  3. Non-Renewal Type (-P-I)
The aggregate sum of the principal and interest will be deposited to your designated Yen Savings Account or Multi Currency Savings Account (Yen).
